Shearing #1: Before and After

Read Now

Shearing #1 happened last Saturday. (Yes, we have three shearings this year ... That's what being a large alpaca farm does to you.) It was mostly pregnant females, so the real powerhouse fleeces are forthcoming, but we did shear out one cria who revealed a truly incredible transformation.

Remember Francesca Fiore, our very first ever Harlequin Appaloosa cria? ... Well, she'd been looking mighty fawn of late (though the tell-tale dark silver grey on her back legs still gave her away as Harlequin). I was honestly wondering if she might wait until her 2nd shearing to give us that coveted grey blanket.

NOPE.

Check it out .... This is what the Harlequin Appaloosas are all about, man.

... Just another medium fawn alpaca, right?

Wait ... Who ... AM I?

Tadaa! I'm grey!
... We have ~20 females bred for the potential to produce Harlequin Appaloosa this year, so expect many more of these transformation photos in the future ...

Kit, I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it, so amazing. Looks like you're having a blast & accomplishing so much. Amazing animals. We're so glad we got some of your girls. Cuppin Cake is so beautiful. I'll send pictures.

Can't wait to touch base again.

Take care.
Cindy

Oh my goodness, it is wonderful to hear from you!! I keep meaning to check in -- we have been a bit overwhelmed of late, but that's really no excuse. I have to confess that your post totally threw me for a loop -- Tilly's daughter, Callie, was recently sold to another Cindy, so when you mentioned Cuppin, for a moment I was sitting there wondering if I'd truly lost my mind ...

I would LOVE to see pictures of Cuppin -- and of course, if you're up for a road trip with the girls, we can always start to discuss breeding options :)

Again, great to hear from you and I look forward to talking again in the future!
