It might seem strange to make a 'blog post JUST to point out a new page on this site, but I have to say, this is my favorite page on this site thus far. I really like this page. Even better than our Breed Standard, which took me WAY more time.
... This is our "highlights" so far (from our alpaca program), and it should only get better from here.
I'm not gonna lie, though ... Part of what I like so much about that page is that they are all in little colorful boxes all in a row. Something about this appeals to me. I think it must appeal to a lot of people, because if you notice, it seems like every website from Etsy to Amazon has pages of little colorful boxes for you to look at. Sooo ... Check out them boxes!
Some day I'll make one for other species, too, but for now ... Alpacas in boxes!
... So, there are two things 'blog-worthy about this one.
One is that apparently we have been busy enough that I neglected to 'blog about our second-ever harlequin appaloosa cria, who also happens to be a girl, for two solid weeks now.
The other is that she is freaking amazing. The first one, now named Francesca Fiore, is really, really nice. This one is even better. Actually way way better.
I bought her sire, PVA King of Diamonds (no, he isn't on this site yet ... working on it) knowing that he had a good chance of producing some really nice offspring. Without getting too nerdy and technical, suffice it to say that his entire pedigree basically guarantees awesome fleece, and he did not disappoint. This all means that he shouldn't be viewed as much of a gamble, but, you know ... You just have to see it for yourself. And oh ... My ... Goodness, are we seeing it. He has three offspring so far and they all totally rock, but this one just blows me away.
... And that's really the other side of the story: her dam. Her dam is not our prettiest alpaca -- pretty far from it, actually. She is tall and lanky and fat and looks like a large sausage on stilts. She spits, too, if you get too close to her baby (or, sometimes, someone else's baby). So, she's not very pretty and not very nice, and you know what? ... She made a ridiculously great cria. I had planned to sell her after the cria was born, because, well, she's unattractive and kind of spitty, but now ... She's still for sale, but her price just went way higher. And I'm keeping the cria.
This one was blessed with my dorkiest pun name yet. She just named herself: Her sire is named King of Diamonds, she's covered in spots, and she loves to run around at full speed. Sooo ... Say hello to Howling Hill Cheetah at Cards!
K writes this stuff, for some reason that has yet to become apparent.
